As I slurp my favorite iced latte & think about what to write today, I find myself totally taken aback by the internet lately. After dedicating at least 3 hours of my day to watching reels non stop while relaxing on my couch & being called names by my mother, I came to the conclusion that I am a hamster on a wheel.
The endless pursuit of adding more & more skincare & makeup to my already overflowing stash is REAL. Every month, the internet feeds me subconsciously to try out something new, I purchase it, feel happy for a week & then something new comes up! It seems like whatever I already own is just not enough or better put it this way that it's never “quite on trend”. As soon as I was done splurging my life’s savings on collecting all the shades of my favorite Matte Liquid Lipsticks, on came Riri & Queen Selena with their glamorous launches of lip oils . I mean setting the stage wasn’t just enough, they had to set the internet on fire too.
In a matter of days, EVERYONE had started talking about lip oils & liquid lipsticks were history. To be honest I applaud the beauty community for promoting the idea of minimalism & promoting a product that when applied to your lips does more than just add a layer of pigment. I love the concept of adding skin loving ingredients that are vegan, organic & rid of heavy metals that actually do good to your skin in the long run. Not to mention it created space for people who opted for simpler makeup looks for their everyday needs. That selective category of people who wanted options for nourished & hydrated lips but ended up buying Vaseline & Labello.
I am quite happy that the beauty community is being inclusive not just based on skin tone & skin textures but extending their line of products for Everyone. Having said that, I still do not have $24 to purchase a lip oil. Facts people!
I do not see myself ever spending this much money on a single tube of lip oil especially when I know I won't be wearing it everyday. See I am someone who likes a visible layer of color on her lips that stays throughout the day. When it comes to matte liquid, it is GOLD. It can be mixed with a gloss to get your own custom shade of lip gloss, it can be mixed with a drop of olive oil to get your version of a lip oil. I personally feel that liquid lipsticks can never go out of fashion as those who always fancied a matte pout will always go for it. Tinted lip oils may come & go but matte lipsticks are a classic lip product that will always stick around.
